An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader said the country has entered "a new phase of deterrence," warning that any further US escalation could have consequences extending beyond the battlefield.
Ali Akbar Velayati said Iran views the idea of a low-cost military strike against the country as a strategic miscalculation.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran is in a new phase of deterrence. The notion of delivering a low-cost strike against Iran is a miscalculation that could have consequences extending far beyond the military arena to the energy markets and the global economy," Velayati wrote in a post on X.
He also warned that increased pressure on Tehran would not bring greater security.
"The White House should know that by threatening Iran and mobilising regional allies and activating the European lobby, it will not achieve greater security and stability; rather, it will globalise the consequences of its mistakes," he said.
Iranian officials have repeatedly warned that the war could widen if the US intensifies its attacks. In recent days, power and water desalination facilities in Kuwait have come under repeated attacks, prompting condemnation from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
