Media outlets affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed Wednesday that recent United States airstrikes struck civilian fishing boats, rejecting US military assertions that the operations targeted Iranian military assets.

The claim followed the release of strike footage by the United States, which Iranian state-aligned media said showed "civilian fishing boats" rather than IRGC fast-attack craft.

An IRGC-affiliated outlet republished the footage on Persian-language platforms with the caption: "US military attack on several civilian fishing boats after mistaking them for IRGC fast attack craft."

CENTCOM says strikes targeted military assets

The claims came after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage of what it described as precision strikes carried out during the 11th consecutive night of military operations.

In a post on X, CENTCOM said its forces "began striking military targets in Iran at 7 p.m. ET today for the 11th consecutive night."

"The strikes are designed to continue degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," the statement added.

US officials said the operations are aimed at military infrastructure, including IRGC fast-attack craft positions, drone facilities, and command sites that they say pose a threat to maritime security.

Conflicting narratives

The opposing accounts reflect the ongoing information battle accompanying military operations in the region.

While Washington says the campaign is intended to safeguard international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian media has portrayed the strikes as having hit civilian infrastructure and questioned the accuracy of US intelligence.

Neither side has provided evidence that independently confirms its account of the specific incident.
