Explosions reported in Iran’s Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island amid recent US strikes
Several explosions were heard early Sunday in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas and nearby Qeshm Island, according to Iranian media, as the two areas remain under heightened tensions following recent US air attacks.
The official IRNA news agency reported that multiple blasts were heard in parts of Bandar Abbas, adding that authorities were investigating the cause on the ground.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency cited provincial officials as saying that residents had reported hearing explosions in Bandar Abbas, but that there were no immediate reports of missile impacts or attacks by US fighter jets.
Tasnim also reported that explosions were heard at around 3:38am local time (00:08 GMT) in several locations across Qeshm Island. The agency cited local residents as saying that multiple areas on the island had been hit, with some reports estimating between three and five impact sites.
The reports came after Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island were targeted in repeated US air attacks in recent days, according to Iranian media.

Lebanese president arrives in Washington for Trump meeting
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and First Lady Nehmat Aoun have arrived in Washington for an official visit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
It is the first visit to Washington by a Lebanese head of state since Michel Sleiman met then-President Barack Obama in 2009.
The presidential plane landed at Joint Base Andrews at 3pm local time (19:00 GMT) on Saturday, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported. The couple were received by US State Department protocol officials, the base commander, Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Maawad, and other Lebanese diplomatic staff.
Aoun is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday and is due to hold talks with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, NNA said. Additional meetings with US senators and administration officials are also planned.
