Jordan says air defences intercept three ballistic missiles fired from Iran

Jordan's armed forces said its air defence systems intercepted and shot down three ballistic missiles that entered the kingdom's airspace from Iran early on Wednesday.

A military source at the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army General Command said the interceptions were carried out as part of operational and defensive measures to protect the country's borders, airspace and the safety of its citizens.

The source said the incident caused no casualties or material damage.

Royal Engineering Corps teams were deployed to deal with missile debris that fell in several locations, securing the sites and taking the necessary safety measures to protect people and property.

The military stressed that Jordan rejects any violation of its sovereignty or the use of its airspace in a way that threatens its security and stability, adding that it continues to monitor the country's skies with the highest level of readiness.

It said the armed forces would respond to any future breach or threat to Jordanian airspace in accordance with its rules of engagement and would take all necessary measures to safeguard the kingdom's sovereignty and national security.

The military also urged the public to rely on official statements and avoid spreading unverified information or rumours.
