  • A tanker managed by Stolt Tankers caught fire after an unidentified external device exploded.
  • All crew members aboard the vessel were reported safe.

The Stolt Magnesium tanker caught fire after an “explosion of an unidentified external device” while sailing in the Arabian Sea off Oman, its manager Stolt Tankers said.

The company said the incident occurred early Tuesday and caused a fire in the vessel’s engine room. The crew began efforts to contain the blaze following the explosion.

Stolt Tankers said all seafarers aboard the vessel were safe and accounted for.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) earlier reported a maritime incident around 40 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s Qalhat, a location that matches the tanker’s position in LSEG shipping data.
