  • Iran condemns latest US strikes, accusing Washington of derailing diplomatic efforts and escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has strongly condemned the latest US strikes on its territory, accusing Washington of "derailing" months of diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region, according to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

The statement was issued shortly after the US military announced a new wave of strikes against Iran, saying the operation was intended to "degrade" Tehran’s ability to target civilian sailors and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks represented "a blatant violation of the principles of the UN Charter" and warned that they posed "a serious threat to international peace and security."

The ministry said the strikes had "undermined all efforts made over the past few months to reduce tensions and establish peace in West Asia."

Tehran also accused Washington of contributing to renewed insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disrupting international commercial shipping by openly interfering in Iran’s efforts to implement what it described as necessary arrangements in the strategic waterway.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces launched additional strikes against Iran at 9:00 pm GMT, aimed at continuing to limit Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships. CENTCOM added that the strikes were ordered by President Donald Trump to "hold Iranian forces accountable."
