Iran has delivered approximately 160 tons of humanitarian assistance to Venezuela in response to the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the country on June 24.

The shipment arrived at the port of La Guaira, where it was welcomed by Venezuelan officials.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil announced the arrival, highlighting the aid's composition. “The cargo includes 40 tons of food packaged into ready-to-distribute kits for people affected by the disaster,” he stated.

The supplies, which also encompass diapers, towels, cooking oil, and other essential items, are being processed at Mercal’s distribution center for rapid dispatch to impacted regions.

Gil emphasized the significance of the delivery in the context of bilateral relations. On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, the Venezuelan people, and Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, he expressed “our most sincere gratitude to the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi, and to Iran’s Chargé d’Affaires in Venezuela, Sirous Karimi, for their extraordinary response.”

The aid follows an earlier expression of solidarity from Iran. On June 25, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei (or Esmaeil Baqaei) affirmed Iran’s readiness to assist in search and rescue operations.

The June 24 earthquakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, caused catastrophic damage, particularly in La Guaira and areas near Caracas.

Official figures indicate that the disaster has claimed approximately 3,889 lives, injured over 16,700 people, and affected or destroyed hundreds of buildings, with tens of thousands reported missing or displaced.

Venezuela continues to receive assistance from various countries and organizations amid ongoing recovery efforts.
