‘Israel's’ state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is in advanced discussions with Indian private defence firms to establish a local production line for Tamir interceptor missiles, the core ammunition for the Iron Dome air defence system.
This initiative is building on the Special Strategic Partnership announced by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in 2026.
The move comes amid heightened global demand for advanced air defence systems, driven by ongoing conflicts. Rafael currently manufactures Tamir missiles in ‘Israel’ and has a partnership with Raytheon for US production.
Expanding to India would diversify supply chains, reduce costs, enhance output capacity, and provide wartime redundancy, according to reports on Hebrew media
They add that the Indian facility could also serve as a hub for exports to third countries.
The Iron Dome, developed by Rafael in partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries, is a mobile system operational since 2011.
