  • Haaretz reported that Yair Netanyahu, son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, changed his legal name to Yonatan Hon within the past 18 months.
  • Tax Authority documents cited by the newspaper reportedly show the name change while his national identification number remained unchanged.

Yair Netanyahu, the son of 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has changed his legal name to Yonatan Hon, according to a report by Haaretz.

The newspaper cited documents from the ‘Israeli’ Tax Authority showing that the name change was made within the past 18 months, while Netanyahu retained the same national identification number.

According to the report, tax documents issued in late 2024 listed his previous name, while more recent records show the new one.

The report also revisited previous instances in which members of the Netanyahu family used different names.

'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously said he and his wife intentionally chose not to name one of their sons after his late brother Yonatan Netanyahu, explaining: “On purpose... you place a very heavy burden on a child.”

The report also noted that Avner Netanyahu and Benjamin Netanyahu himself have previously used alternative names while abroad.

Legal Name Changes In ‘Israel’

Under ‘Israeli’ law, citizens may generally change their legal name once every seven years, subject to specific legal procedures.

Haaretz did not provide a reason for Yair Netanyahu’s reported name change.
