  • Iran’s parliament is preparing legislation on managing the strategic waterway, according to the official broadcaster.

Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi has warned that any activity in the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Tehran would fail, following reports of an attack on a commercial tanker off the coast of Oman.

Boroujerdi, a member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Iran’s control over the strategic waterway was a decision made at the highest levels of the state and was influenced by the latest US-‘Israel’ war against Iran, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

"Any action in the Strait of Hormuz without coordination with Iran is doomed to failure," Boroujerdi said.

The lawmaker said Iran’s parliament would approve legislation on managing the Strait of Hormuz "at the earliest opportunity," adding that relevant authorities would be required to implement its provisions.

Boroujerdi said Iran would continue to handle matters related to the waterway based on its "national interests and security."

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, with a significant share of global oil shipments passing through it. Tensions around the waterway have increased amid regional military escalations and attacks on commercial vessels.
