‘Israeli’ police says it suspended soldier after throwing stun grenade into vehicle

Security camera footage from the Qalandiya refugee camp, located north of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, has sparked widespread attention after showing an ‘Israeli’ Border Police soldier throwing a stun grenade into a stopped Palestinian vehicle and closing the door, apparently trapping the occupants inside as the device detonated.

Videos circulating on social media depict the soldier opening the vehicle door, deploying the stun grenade, and then shutting it.

Palestinian sources describe the vehicle as carrying young men or a family, with the action appearing unprovoked in the available footage.

The camp, a frequent site of tensions, saw the event during what reports characterize as a raid or patrol.

‘Israeli’ authorities have allegedly, according to YNET, responded by suspending the involved Border Police soldier pending an investigation.

“The documentation shows a soldier who acted in a manner inconsistent with procedures,” the police told YNET. .

“Accordingly, the incident has been transferred to the Department of Internal Police Investigations for examination.”

Stun grenades, also known as flash-bang devices, are non-lethal tools intended to disorient individuals through loud noise and bright light.

When used in confined spaces like a vehicle, they can cause significant harm, including potential hearing damage, temporary blindness, or more severe injuries.

Reports on social media claim one child in the vehicle suffered permanent vision loss.

The event has drawn condemnation from Palestinian officials and activists, who view it as continuing the trend of excessive and oftentimes lethal force in the West Bank.
