Funeral ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will take place over seven days across Iran and Iraq, culminating in his burial at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad on July 9.

The funeral program begins on July 3 in Tehran, where foreign dignitaries, senior Iranian officials, religious leaders and scholars are expected to attend memorial ceremonies.

On July 4 and 5, Khamenei's coffin, along with the coffins of several family members, will lie in state at Tehran's Grand Mosalla, where the public will be able to pay their respects before funeral processions continue through the capital.

The ceremonies will then move to the holy city of Qom on July 6 and 7. Home to Iran's leading Shia seminaries, Qom played a central role in Khamenei's religious education and remains one of the country's most important religious centers.

On July 8, official ceremonies are scheduled to continue in Iraq, with receptions planned at Najaf International Airport before public processions in Najaf and Karbala.

Najaf is home to the Imam Ali Shrine, one of Shia Islam's holiest sites, while Karbala contains the shrines of Imam Hussein and Abbas, making both cities major destinations for religious pilgrims.

The funeral will conclude on July 9 with Khamenei's burial at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, Iran's holiest city.

Mashhad also holds personal significance for Khamenei, who was born there in 1939 and received part of his religious education in the city before continuing his studies in Qom.
