Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Iranians to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in “large numbers,” describing the moment as the “beginning of a new chapter” for the country.

His message, published on Thursday via the semi-official Tasnim news agency, comes as Iran prepares for a multi-day funeral ceremony more than four months after Khamenei was killed in an 'Israeli' strike on the first day of the war.

“New chapter” after Khamenei’s death

“This martyrdom is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a new chapter of national unity, resilience, and progress,” Pezeshkian said.

He argued that Khamenei’s death demonstrated that “this system rests on the firm foundations of faith, ideals, and the will of a great nation.”

Pezeshkian urged Iranians “regardless of ethnicity, religion, political views, or background” to attend the ceremonies, saying the turnout should present a unified national image to the world.
