Day 120 | US strikes Iran targets after attack on cargo ship

Iranian media has retracted a previous statement issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which -at the time- warned of a “swift and decisive response” to recent US strikes on Iranian targets.

“The Public Relations Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) indicates that statements attributed to the IRGC regarding a confrontation with the United States in recent hours are fake,” Fars News Agency said in a report.

“IRGC public relations officials say that none of them were issued by the IRGC,” it added.

Earlier today, US forces struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar locations on Friday in response to what it said was an Iranian attack on a cargo ship, the US military said.

"The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire," US Central Command said on X, describing the strikes as "a powerful response to yesterday's attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz."

A US defense official, cited by The New York Times, said Saturday that the US military’s strikes on Iranian targets, which it says is a response to an attack on a cargo ship, are not a “re-start of major combat operations”.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Saturday that its response to the recent US strikes would be "swift and decisive."

In a statement, the IRGC said the "US aggression will not go unanswered," adding that Iran's response would come "at a time and place of our choosing."

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says that its naval and air units successfully neutralized an American military assault targeting Sirik Island, claiming to have forced the US forces into a retreat to preserve Iranian territorial sovereignty.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has launched a coordinated counteroffensive against United States military positions in direct retaliation for the recent American aerial assault targeting Sirik Island, according to Iranian media.

Iranian state television reported that three explosions were heard at a pier in the southern city of Sirik.

The broadcaster also said two projectiles struck a telecommunications tower in Sirik.

The reports come after the US military announced it launched strikes on Iranian targets after what it said was an Iranian attack on a cargo ship.
