  • Move reverses the policy of outgoing President
  • 'Israeli' Foreign Minister welcomed the election result.
  • Both sides agreed to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation.

Colombia will completely overhaul its foreign policy posture and rebuild its diplomatic alliance with 'Israel' under incoming leadership.

President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella stated via social media that his future administration is fully committed to elevating bilateral cooperation between the two nations to historic heights.

"Colombia will restore and strengthen its relationship with the State of 'Israel' like never before," De la Espriella wrote.

He added that the Middle Eastern nation can confidently count on Colombia to serve as a loyal friend and a steadfast ally in the region.

'Israel' welcomes new friend

The policy pivot follows an official congratulatory telephone call between the Colombian leader and 'Israeli' Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa'ar.

Sa'ar publicly celebrated the discussion, framing the election results as an important victory that injects renewed hope and concrete possibilities for the citizens of Colombia.

During the call, the 'Israeli' minister highlighted the strong personal rapport built between the two men, describing De la Espriella as a genuine supporter of the Jewish people and the state. Tel Aviv emphasized that it is ready to coordinate immediately with Bogota to fast-track bilateral projects.

Reversing previous diplomatic rifts

The upcoming transition represents a sharp break from the hostile stance maintained by the outgoing progressive administration of Gustavo Petro.

Petro formally severed all ties with 'Israel' over its military operations, freezing decades of intelligence sharing and trade agreements.

According to Sa'ar, the incoming president explicitly reiterated the campaign promises he made to voters regarding a total security and economic realignment.

The two leaders agreed that technical teams will begin working together closely to establish a firm framework for future pacts. "We will do it together, Colombia and 'Israel', and in a big way," Sa'ar noted.
