Jordan's national football team (Al-Nashama) will take another significant step in its historic FIFA World Cup journey when it faces Algeria in a pivotal Group J encounter on Tuesday.

For the Nashama, the match represents more than just three points. It is an opportunity to keep alive hopes of advancing beyond the group stage in the country's first-ever World Cup appearance.

Jordan enters the match after a 3-1 defeat to Austria in its tournament debut. Despite the setback, head coach Jamal Sellami's side showed flashes of quality and resilience, with the team remaining firmly in contention for qualification.

With defending champions Argentina already securing a place in the knockout rounds after defeating Austria, the battle for the remaining qualification spots in Group J has intensified.

A positive result against Algeria would significantly improve Jordan's chances heading into its final group match against Argentina.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 PM EDT on Monday (6:00 AM Jordan time on Tuesday).

Group J standings before the match

  • Argentina – 6 points
  • Austria – 3 points
  • Jordan – 0 points
  • Algeria – 0 points

Jordan's final group-stage match will be against Argentina, while Algeria will conclude its campaign against Austria.
