A 21-year-old 'Israeli' tourist was arrested in Cyprus on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing three people during a fight outside a nightclub in the resort town of Ayia Napa.

Fight breaks out outside nightclub

The incident took place at around 4:30 a.m. on Louka Louka Street, according to local authorities.

Police said the suspect and another 22-year-old 'Israeli', who was later also arrested, became involved in an altercation with a Cypriot man.

Two security guards from a nearby nightclub intervened in an attempt to separate those involved.

According to the investigation conducted by Famagusta District Police, the 21-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed all three individuals.

Injuries and arrests

A 25-year-old security guard suffered stab wounds to the abdomen and underwent emergency surgery. Authorities said his condition is serious but stable and he is no longer in life-threatening danger.

A second security guard, aged 41, was stabbed in the leg, while the Cypriot man also sustained injuries.

The second 'Israeli' involved in the altercation suffered head and facial injuries.

Police seized a knife at the scene as evidence.

Authorities said the main suspect also verbally insulted officers upon arrest, leading to an additional charge related to breaching public order and insulting public servants.

A court in Paralimni ordered the suspect to remain in detention for eight days while investigations continue.

Investigation ongoing

Authorities have not yet released details regarding a possible motive.

Ayia Napa is one of Cyprus’ most popular tourist destinations and is widely known for its nightlife, although incidents involving tourist-related violence occasionally occur.
