4 hours ago|- France says G7 leaders discussed reducing reliance on the Strait of Hormuz for Gulf oil shipments.
- Plans include funding land-based infrastructure to transport oil and gas outside the strategic chokepoint.
France has said that Group of Seven leaders have explored alternatives to transporting oil from the Gulf, aiming to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to the Associated Press, the French Foreign Ministry said discussions included supply routes designed to bypass the narrow waterway, which is a critical global energy chokepoint.
According to the ministry, leaders also considered financing and developing land-based infrastructure to enable the transport of oil and gas away from the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposals come amid renewed concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region, where tensions have repeatedly raised fears of disruption to global energy supplies.
