Ben-Gvir says 'Israel' is not bound by a Trump-backed agreement, insisting security considerations must take precedence over international pressure.
'Israeli' National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said 'Israel' is not bound by a reported agreement promoted by US President Donald Trump, arguing that the country's security interests must take precedence over international pressure.
In a post on X, Ben-Gvir stressed that 'Israel' is "an independent and sovereign nation" and said any arrangement that fails to ensure 'Israeli' security cannot obligate the government.
"Trump's agreement does not bind us. Israel is not subject to the United States," he wrote.
The minister said 'Israel's' primary responsibility is to its citizens, soldiers and the Jewish people, warning against what he described as a history of security setbacks resulting from diplomatic compromises.
Ben-Gvir cited the Oslo Accords, the aftermath of the 2006 Lebanon war and previous periods of restraint toward Gaza as examples of policies that, in his claim, ultimately undermined 'Israeli' security.
While expressing appreciation for Washington and Trump, Ben-Gvir emphasized that 'Israel' must make its own strategic decisions.
"We love the USA and are grateful to President Trump. And yet, the State of Israel is not a banana republic," he said.
The far-right minister reiterated his opposition to any agreement that would leave Hezbollah intact, saying 'Israel' should insist on the group's dismantlement and should not withdraw from territory seized during military operations against what he described as terrorist infrastructure.
He also called for a forceful response to attacks launched from Lebanon, arguing that any drone, missile or unmanned aerial vehicle strike targeting 'Israel' should trigger immediate retaliation.
Ben-Gvir said he had repeatedly conveyed his position to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, arguing that 'Israel' faces a historic moment requiring decisive action.
