The New York Times reported that Iranian officials deliberately waited until after midnight local time to finalize a key agreement, in order to avoid the timing coinciding with the birthday of US President Donald Trump.
According to the report, Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to travel to Geneva to take part in the signing ceremony.
The newspaper cited Iranian officials as saying the decision to delay the announcement until after midnight was intended to ensure the moment did not align with Trump’s birthday.
