The Pentagon lockdown and partial evacuation on Thursday were triggered by a false alarm from a hazardous materials sensor, according to two sources familiar with the matter cited by CNN.

Earlier, multiple floors and corridors inside the Pentagon were locked down and some areas evacuated after authorities responded to what was believed to be a hazardous materials incident. Emergency crews, including hazardous materials teams, were deployed while officials investigated an air quality alert detected inside the building.

The incident prompted precautionary measures, including shelter-in-place orders and restricted access to parts of the Pentagon complex.

According to CNN, authorities later determined that the alert was caused by a false reading from a hazardous materials sensor. No hazardous substance was found, and no injuries were reported.
