  • Report says Trump initially questioned the need for military action.
  • Updated intelligence on the Apache helicopter incident reportedly changed his decision.

US President Donald Trump approved military strikes on Iran after receiving updated intelligence about the attack on a US Army Apache helicopter, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal citing US officials.

The report said Trump was not initially convinced that a military response was necessary. However, his position changed following a White House briefing in which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff recommended military action.

According to the officials, the briefing included updated information on the Iranian Shahed drone that allegedly struck the American helicopter.

The officials said the attack on the helicopter warranted a response regardless of whether it was intentional or accidental, leading Trump to authorize the operation.
