“Sexual misconduct”: Senior ‘Israeli’ military official resigns after investigation

‘Israeli’ Brigadier General Yisrael Shomer, head of the ‘Israeli’ military operations division, has resigned from the military with immediate effect following questioning by military police over suspected ethical violations.

Hebrew media reported that Shomer was interrogated on Tuesday by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division concerning allegations of a consensual relationship with a subordinate officer under his command.

The ‘Israeli’ military stated that Shomer requested to step down for personal reasons, a request accepted by his superior, Major General Itzik Cohen, head of the Operations Directorate, and subsequently approved by Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir.

However, multiple reports indicate that the resignation was effectively compelled due to the ongoing investigation into alleged moral and institutional offenses involving the exploitation of his authority.

As head of the Operations Division, he held a critical role in planning and directing military activities. The ‘Israeli’ military has refrained from providing detailed public commentary on the specific allegations, emphasizing the personal nature of his retirement request.

The investigation remains ongoing, though Shomer's immediate retirement removes him from active duty. No further disciplinary measures have been publicly announced at this stage.
