A hotel in the Bavarian town of Lam, Germany has sparked controversy and an official investigation after reportedly rejecting a booking request from an ‘Israeli’ family.

The incident involved Hotel zum Hirschen, a family-run establishment in the Bavarian Forest near the Czech border.

According to reports, the ‘Israeli’ guests received a response via the Booking.com platform stating, “Sorry, there are no Jews allowed in our hotel.”

‘Israel’s’ Consul General in Munich, Talya Lador, publicly shared a screenshot of the message on social media, questioning whether society had returned to the 1930s.

Bavaria’s justice ministry has launched a probe into the matter, with prosecutors examining the communication for potential incitement to hatred.

Booking.com promptly removed the hotel from its listings following complaints.

The hotel initially denied involvement but later acknowledged that an employee had sent the message. In a statement, management described the reply as a “regrettable error,” attributing it to heightened caution amid a recent wave of fake bookings and phishing attempts on major platforms.

The hotel, which has operated for over 120 years and previously accommodated Jewish guests, said that it does not discriminate.

Hotel representatives issued a formal apology to the affected ‘Israeli’ family and extended an offer of a complimentary one-week stay to demonstrate their commitment to non-discrimination.
