Day 90 | Trump says he won’t rush Iran deal because ‘I don’t care about the midterms’

US President Donald Trump said he would not be rushed into reaching an agreement with Iran, stressing that Tehran’s attempts to outlast him would fail because he does not “care about the midterms.” Trump also stated that the United States would “watch over” the Strait of Hormuz under any future agreement, while insisting that “nobody’s going to control it.”

Iranian state television reported that the memorandum of understanding currently under negotiation between Tehran and Washington would include lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports in exchange for restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels. The White House denied the report, describing it as untrue.

Iran imposed new restrictions on messaging applications and app stores, according to an internet watchdog, only one day after authorities partially eased a months-long internet blackout across the country.

In Lebanon, ‘Israel’ launched strikes targeting what it described as more than 150 infrastructure sites linked to the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement across southern Lebanon.

US re-adds UN expert Francesca Albanese to sanctions list

The US Treasury Department has added Francesca Albanese back to its sanctions list, according to the department’s website.

The decision comes only days after Albanese was removed from the list following a federal court ruling that found the sanctions restricted her freedom of speech.

Earlier this year, Albanese’s family filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing the sanctions were imposed in retaliation for her efforts to highlight rights abuses committed by ‘Israel’ against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Albanese serves as the United Nations special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories and has repeatedly accused ‘Israel’ of committing serious violations against Palestinians during its war on Gaza.

Iran will stick to its red lines, ‘will not be pushed by Trump’s rhetoric’: Official

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, said Iran would not be “pushed back by Trump’s rhetoric” amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Azizi stressed that Iran would continue to adhere to what he described as the country’s “red lines,” including “the right to enrich uranium, possession of enriched uranium, authority over the Strait of Hormuz, and the removal of sanctions.”

He also accused US President Donald Trump of shifting between threats and diplomacy in an attempt to break what he called a “strategic deadlock.”

“It is obvious Trump, seeking a way out of this strategic deadlock, alternates between issuing threats and appealing for an agreement,” Azizi said.
