Pope Leo XIV has issued a renewed call to governments worldwide to support the people of Gaza and initiate reconstruction efforts, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

Speaking to journalists as he departed Castel Gandolfo for the Vatican on Tuesday evening, the Pontiff expressed deep concern over the persistent suffering of Gaza's civilian population.

The Pope emphasized that residents of Gaza continue to face severe hardships due to insufficient humanitarian aid.

"Unfortunately, the people of Gaza are still not receiving humanitarian aid," he stated.

This situation has led to widespread protests, significant difficulties, and actions such as those taken by participants in aid flotillas.

He described the suffering as profound and ongoing.

In his remarks, Pope Leo XIV appealed directly to international authorities. "I would also like to renew, not just an invitation, but truly an appeal, to all authorities to assist and support the people of Gaza, and to help begin reconstruction," he said.

The Pontiff stressed that the people are "truly still suffering greatly" and urged immediate global solidarity to address their needs.

The statement also addressed broader human rights concerns. Pope Leo XIV called for respect for human rights worldwide, framing the situation in Gaza within a global context of dignity and justice.

Additionally, the Pope warned against the dehumanizing potential of advanced technologies in conflict.

He cited examples from Lebanon and other regions where artificial intelligence is increasingly used in warfare, often without adequate consideration for human lives.

"War is now being carried out with AI, without consideration for human lives, which are truly the victims of all this," he observed.

This latest intervention reflects Pope Leo XIV's ongoing focus on ethical issues surrounding artificial intelligence, a theme prominent in his recent encyclical.

He has advocated for a "disarmed" approach to AI that prioritizes human responsibility and dignity over unchecked technological application in military contexts.
