  • The Spanish Chargé d’Affaires in ‘Israel’ was summoned by the Foreign Ministry over alleged violence against Gaza flotilla activists by Spanish authorities.
  • ‘Israel’ accused Spain of hypocrisy and demanded clarification over its handling of a Spanish activist linked to the flotilla.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in ‘Israel’, Francisca Pedrós, was summoned on Monday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem following claims of violence involving Spanish authorities and Gaza flotilla activists.

The move came after Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called for an urgent clarification meeting over what he described as photos and videos showing severe violence against activists by Spanish authorities.

During the meeting, Foreign Ministry Political Director Yossi Amrani accused Spain of double standards, saying Madrid quickly condemns ‘Israel’ while remaining silent on alleged violence by its own authorities.

Amrani said ‘Israel’ had faced what he described as “far more serious provocations” from hundreds of flotilla participants across recent missions.

The Foreign Ministry also demanded explanations over Spain’s handling of flotilla activist and Spanish citizen Saif Abu Kashk, who has reportedly claimed ties to Hamas.

Officials questioned why no action was taken against him despite these claims, escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The Spanish side has not yet publicly responded to the summons or the allegations raised during the meeting.
