An unexpected celebrity has taken social media by storm in Bangladesh: a 700-kilogram albino buffalo whose distinct golden hair and look have earned him the tongue-in-cheek nickname "Donald Trump."
Housed at the Rabeya Agro Farm in the Paikpara area of Narayanganj, the three-and-a-half-year-old animal has become a viral sensation ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
The buffalo’s signature look - a prominent sweep of golden-blonde hair across its forehead - immediately sparked the comparison. Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha explained that he purchased the rare albino buffalo from a cattle market in Rajshahi about ten months ago.
"My younger brother jokingly named it Donald Trump after seeing the hair on its head," Mridha said.
Local visitors have happily embraced the joke, using the nickname to poke some fun at the US President.
"When I saw his pictures on Facebook, he looked exactly like Donald Trump," one female visitor told local newspaper Prothom Alo. "His facial structure and even hairstyle match."
However, she was quick to point out a glaring flaw in the comparison, adding with a laugh, "But this buffalo is actually very calm, polite, and sweet-natured, which definitely doesn’t match Trump."
Rare breed sold for a premium
While the political teasing has driven massive crowds to the farm, the viral fame has also translated into a lucrative business deal. Albino buffaloes are exceptionally rare in South Asia and are highly sought after.
Raised on a nutritious diet of corn, soybeans, wheat bran, and fresh grass, the massive animal has already been sold on a live-weight basis at 550 BDT per kilogram. A buyer from Dhaka secured the famous animal and is expected to take him home just before the holiday celebrations begin.
