  • Netanyahu’s office condemns new EU sanctions targeting 'Israeli' settlers.
  • Statement frames measures as punishment for Jewish presence in the occupied West Bank.

The office of 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned newly announced European Union sanctions targeting 'Israeli' settlers, describing the measures as unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Monday, Netanyahu’s office said that “sanctioning Jews for living in Judea and Samaria is unacceptable.”

“Judea and Samaria” is the Biblical term commonly used by 'Israeli' officials and settler groups to refer to the occupied West Bank.

Rejection of EU measures
Netanyahu’s office said 'Israel' would continue defending what it described as the right of Jewish residents to live in the occupied territory.

“'Israel' will always protect the rights of Jews to live in the heart of our ancestral homeland,” the statement said.

The office also dismissed the European Union’s move as ineffective.

“The European Union’s attempts to sanction 'Israeli' civilians is a further sign of weakness and will not succeed,” it added.
