US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social tonight to announce a diplomatic breakthrough: a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine scheduled for May 9th, 10th, and 11th.

The pause in hostilities is intended to coincide with "Victory Day," a significant anniversary for both nations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.

According to the President's announcement, the deal includes:

Suspension of all kinetic activity: A total halt to offensive operations, missile strikes, and drone attacks for the 72-hour period.

Massive prisoner swap: The exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each country, a move the President described as a major humanitarian step.

Direct mediation

US President Trump emphasized that the request for the truce was made directly by him during ongoing negotiations. He expressed his appreciation to both President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for their personal agreement to the terms.

"Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and hard fought War," Trump wrote. "Talks are continuing on ending this Major Conflict... and we are getting closer and closer every day."
