The 5th edition of the Casablanca International Independent Film Festival (FICIC) concluded Wednesday evening with a resounding victory for Palestinian cinema.

The festival’s highest honor, the Grand Prix “Anfa d’or,” was awarded to Palestine 36, the latest feature film from acclaimed director Annemarie Jacir.

The closing ceremony, held at the Mohamed Zefzaf Cultural Center, served as a vibrant celebration of independent global cinema, featuring a series of tributes and awards. However, it was Jacir’s historical drama that stole the spotlight/

Palestine 36 is a sweeping historical drama that revisits a pivotal era in the Palestinian struggle: the 1936–1939 Arab Revolt against British colonial rule.

The film was selected as the Palestinian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards/

The win at FICIC adds to a growing list of accolades for the film, which previously won the Tokyo Grand Prix and received a 20-minute standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival.
