The Iranian navy hit a US frigate with two missiles after attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, claims Fars News Agency citing local sources in southern Iran.

The vessel was reportedly moving toward the Strait of Hormuz near Jask…was targeted after allegedly ignoring a warning issued by the naval forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the news agency said in its report.

“The American frigate was unable to continue its route following the impacts and was forced to turn back and leave the area,” it continued.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected Iranian state media reports alleging that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hit a US Navy warship with two missiles.

“No U.S. Navy ships have been struck,” CENTCOM stated on X.

“US forces remain active in the region, supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports,” it added.

Earlier today, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, the military's central command, warned that it will attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz.

It comes after US President Donald Trump said his country’s military would begin escorting ships through the blocked waterway, in an operation he dubbed “Project Freedom”.

The commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya HQ Major General Ali Abdollahi, in statements cited by Tasnim News Agency, said they “We will maintain and manage the security of the Strait of Hormuz with all our might and we inform all commercial ships and oil tankers to refrain from any action to transit without coordination with the armed force.”

“We warn that any foreign armed force, especially the aggressive US army, will be attacked if they intend to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz,” Abdollahi added.
