Arizona passes resolution replacing “West Bank” with “Judea and Samaria”

Lawmakers in the US state of Arizona approved a resolution urging state institutions to adopt the terms “Judea and Samaria” in place of “West Bank” in official communications and documents.

The measure passed the Arizona House of Representatives in February 2026 with bipartisan support and was approved by the Senate in late April.

As a non-binding resolution, it does not carry the force of law and did not require gubernatorial approval.

It formally rejects the term “West Bank”.

Republican Representative David Livingston, who sponsored the resolution, claimed that the terminology acknowledges the historical and spiritual connections of the Jewish people to the land.
