In a post on X, Murphy said the damage from the war could worsen, accusing Trump of refusing to end the fighting. “He is still thinking about a catastrophic ground invasion,” Murphy wrote, adding that prolonging the war keeps Iran in control of the Strait of Hormuz and drives global energy prices higher.

Corruption, global fallout

Murphy also alleged the war has become a source of corruption benefiting figures close to Trump, claiming it is costing American lives and contributing to a growing global food crisis.

“This war strengthens Iran, weakens America, and enables some of the largest corruption in our history,” he said.

Trump signals no retreat

The criticism follows a series of sharp statements by Trump, who recently vowed to destroy what remains of Iran’s navy and claimed Iranian armed forces have been “completely defeated.”

Earlier this week, Trump announced plans to extend a ceasefire until Tehran presents proposals for a settlement, indicating that negotiations remain conditional.

Uncertain path ahead

The remarks highlight widening divisions in Washington over the direction of the conflict, as fears grow that further escalation could destabilize global markets and deepen the humanitarian and economic impact of the الحرب.
