  • Mossad confirms death of senior operative during covert mission linked to Iran operations.
  • Chief says intelligence efforts supported wider military campaign and strikes on Iran.

The head of the Mossad, David Barnea, confirmed the death of a senior intelligence operative during a covert mission linked to ongoing operations involving Iran, in a rare public address marking Memorial Day in 'Israel'.

The operative, identified only by the Hebrew initial “Mem,” was killed while carrying out a mission “outside 'Israel’s' borders,” according to Barnea, who used the annual ceremony to highlight the agency’s role in what he described as a prolonged intelligence and military campaign.

Barnea said the fallen operative played a significant role in what he referred to as “Operation Roaring Lion,” a joint US–'Israeli' effort targeting Iranian strategic capabilities.

He described the mission as relying on “creativity, cunning, and advanced technology,” adding that intelligence gathered by field operatives had contributed to the interception of missile threats and strikes reaching deep into Iranian territory.

Despite the declared ceasefire phase, Barnea emphasized that Mossad operations would continue.

“Our responsibility will only end when this radical regime is replaced,” he said, underscoring an ongoing intelligence posture directed at Iran.

The remarks came during 'Israel’s' Memorial Day, a national day marking fallen soldiers and security personnel. The ceremony is typically used by officials to highlight military and intelligence losses alongside operational achievements.

Barnea said the death of “Mem” reflects the hidden cost of covert operations, while framing the operative’s contribution as central to what he described as security gains for 'Israel'.

“The legacy of ‘Mem’ remains a cornerstone of our efforts,” Barnea said, praising what he called a decisive contribution to national security during a period of intensified regional conflict.

The disclosure comes amid continued escalation between 'Israel' and Iran, where covert operations, strikes, and counter-strikes have increasingly moved into open confrontation following years of shadow warfare.
