A recent study conducted by researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has revealed notable negative impacts on health-related behaviors among ‘Israelis’ amid the ongoing war with Iran.
The research, cited by The Jerusalem Post, indicates that nearly two-thirds of ‘Israelis’ experienced a sharp decline in physical activity and reduced sleep duration.
The non-peer-reviewed study also found an increase in the consumption of ultra-processed foods, with just over half of participants reporting higher intake of sweets and pastries.
This was accompanied by a comparable decrease in the consumption of fresh produce.
Alcohol consumption rose as well. The effects on dietary patterns were more pronounced among women than men.
A clear correlation emerged between heightened consumption of ultra-processed foods and reduced physical activity, particularly among those experiencing sleep loss.
Smokers reported an increase in daily cigarette use, although the sample size for this group was limited.
The frequency of air raid sirens was identified as a key contributing factor, showing strong associations with diminished sleep and lower levels of physical activity.
