  • British police arrest a man and woman over suspected attempted arson attack on a synagogue in north London.

British police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of attempting to set fire to a synagogue in Finchley, north London, in what authorities described as an “anti-Semitic hate crime.”

The arrests were made on Wednesday, with police first detaining a 47-year-old woman in Watford, northwest of London, followed by a 46-year-old man in the same area. Both remain in custody.

Metropolitan Police said earlier that two suspects wearing dark clothing and face masks were seen throwing “what appeared to be petrol-filled bottles, as well as bricks,” at the synagogue shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

No fires were ignited, and no damage or injuries were reported.

The incident comes less than a month after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish charity were set on fire near a synagogue in Golders Green, also in north-west London. The fire caused no injuries, and three suspects have since been charged in connection with that case.
