US & ‘Israel’ at war with Iran | Day 37 coverage
The 2026 Iran War began on February 28 when the United States and ‘Israel’ launched an operation dubbed Epic Fury by the US and Lion's Roar by ‘Israel’, unleashing nearly 900 airstrikes in 12 hours on Iranian missile systems, air defenses, nuclear facilities, military bases, and leadership targets.
Yemen’s Houthi movement entered the war early, launching missile and drone attacks toward ‘Israel’ and expanding the war beyond the Gulf and Levant theaters.
This direct assault followed years of shadow war, including the first-ever Iran-‘Israel’ missile exchanges in April and October 2024 and a limited 12-day war in June 2025 that damaged Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of top officials were killed in the opening salvo, while a US Tomahawk strike on a school adjacent to a naval base near Bandar Abbas killed about 170 civilians, mostly children.
Iran responded within hours by firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and launching thousands of drones at ‘Israel’, US bases in the Gulf, and targets in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait.
Tehran restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz—through which 20% of global oil flows—disrupting shipping and spiking oil prices.
The retaliation reignited fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon, prompting ‘Israeli’ strikes there and spreading the conflict regionally while hitting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, airports, and heritage sites.
Over the next five weeks, US-‘Israeli’ forces conducted sustained air campaigns that destroyed much of Iran’s air-defense network, missile production sites and navy assets.
Iran appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader, but pragmatic senior official Ali Larijani was assassinated in an ‘Israeli’ strike on March 17.
More than 80,000 civilian sites were hit, including 260 medical facilities and UNESCO-listed buildings, causing widespread blackouts, fuel shortages, toxic pollution, and over 2,000 total deaths across Iran, ‘Israel’, Lebanon, and Gulf states.

In a post shared on social media, Sanders referred to Trump’s remarks as “the ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual,” and called on Congress to act immediately. “Congress has got to act NOW. End this war,” he wrote.
Sanders’ comments came in response to a post attributed to Trump in which he warned of possible strikes targeting infrastructure in Iran. The message referenced what he described as “Power Plant Day” and “Bridge Day,” alongside a demand related to the Strait of Hormuz.
The exchange highlights growing political tensions in Washington over the prospect of further escalation with Iran, with lawmakers increasingly voicing concern over the scope and tone of official statements.

Trump sets Tuesday deadline for Iran over Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump warned that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday evening or face attacks on its critical infrastructure, according to a Sunday interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Trump told the Journal, “If they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing.”

VIDEO: Abu Obaida rejects disarmament proposals
The military spokesperson for Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obaida, strongly rejected proposals to disarm the group, describing them as a “blatant attempt” by ‘Israel’ to continue killing and extermination of the Palestinian people.
In a recorded statement, Abu Obaida said such proposals presented in a “blatant manner” would not be accepted under any circumstances and characterized them as an effort to bypass military failures on the ground.
He emphasized that weapons remain the primary means of defense against attempts at extermination, adding that what could not be taken "by tanks and annihilation, it will not take from us politically."
The statement comes amid growing international and regional pressure regarding Gaza’s post-war future, with the issue of “resistance weapons” emerging as one of the most contentious points.

The military spokesperson for Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obaida, said the region is facing “armed military aggression and blatant bullying” that violates the United Nations Charter, warning that the destruction could spread to Lebanon, Yemen, and Qatar.
He accused ‘Israel’ of stoking conflict for its own benefit and criticized international silence as “the red line” turns into a deadly trap for civilians.
Regarding ongoing negotiations, he said Palestinian representatives fulfilled their obligations to remove pretexts, calling on international actors to pressure ‘Israel’ to complete the first-phase commitments before any further steps. He also blamed the US administration for delaying agreements and warned that violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinian detainees “will not pass without consequences.”
Abu Obaida mourned “the righteous martyrs of Iran” and their leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, comparing massacres in Iran, such as the Minab school attack, to the violence in Gaza. He praised strikes carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as retaliation for “Zionist-American aggression” and described attacks by soldiers from Iran, Lebanon, and Yemen as a continuation of Operation Aqsa Typhoon.
He reaffirmed full support for Lebanon and its resistance, expressing confidence in the fighters of Hezbollah, who he said inflicted humiliating losses on the enemy. He called on Lebanese resistance fighters to seize opportunities to capture ‘Israeli’ soldiers and urged Palestinians in Jerusalem and inside ‘Israel’ to march toward Al-Aqsa Mosque in defense of holy sites and prisoners’ dignity.

Carrying anti-war banners and chanting slogans against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hundreds of ‘Israelis’ rallied in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest the war with Iran.
Demonstrators gathered in a central square, holding signs that read: "Don't bomb — talk! End the endless war!" despite restrictions on mass gatherings imposed during the conflict with Iran.

"We are here to demand an end to the war in Iran, the war in Lebanon, and the war in Gaza which is still going on, as well as an end to the pogroms in the West Bank.
"In Israel, there's always a war. So, if we're not allowed to demonstrate, we will never be allowed to speak," he added.

Netanyahu is on trial in a long-running corruption case and has sought a presidential pardon, with US President Donald Trump repeatedly pressuring ‘Israeli’ President Isaac Herzog to grant one.

"These two things are their cash machine for funding the war of terror against us and against the entire world. We will continue to strike them," he said.
Protester Cecile said the reasons for the war kept shifting.
"The reasons for the war keep moving and changing all the time. We don't know what will be considered a success or a failure, and we don't know how long it's gonna take," she said.
