Iran’s embassy in Austria sharply criticized EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, calling her stance on the Strait of Hormuz “hypocritical.”

Dispute over the Strait of Hormuz

Kallas told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that restoring “toll-free freedom of navigation” in the strait was “an urgent priority,” blaming Iranian attacks on civilian ships for near-total traffic disruption.

In response, the embassy accused Kallas of ignoring “the aggressive attacks by the American-'Israeli' coalition against Iran” while condemning what it described as Tehran’s “purely defensive actions.”

Legal and nuclear arguments

The embassy also challenged Kallas on legal grounds, noting she urged Iran to respect the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea—a treaty Iran is not a party to.

It added that Iran had complied with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, yet its “peaceful, safeguarded nuclear facilities were still attacked.”

Sharp rhetoric

“What kind of advisors surround her? A batch of spineless ‘yes-men’ puppets, no different from the sycophants who surround Trump?” the embassy wrote, reflecting escalating tensions between Iran and EU officials over regional security and maritime navigation.
