US & ‘Israel’ at war with Iran | Day 28 coverage
The 2026 Iran War began on February 28 when the United States and ‘Israel’ launched an operation dubbed Epic Fury by the US and Lion's Roar by ‘Israel’, unleashing nearly 900 airstrikes in 12 hours on Iranian missile systems, air defenses, nuclear facilities, military bases, and leadership targets.
This direct assault followed years of shadow war, including the first-ever Iran-‘Israel’ missile exchanges in April and October 2024 and a limited 12-day war in June 2025 that damaged Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of top officials were killed in the opening salvo, while a US Tomahawk strike on a school adjacent to a naval base near Bandar Abbas killed about 170 civilians, mostly children.
Iran responded within hours by firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and launching thousands of drones at ‘Israel’, US bases in the Gulf, and targets in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait.
Tehran restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz—through which 20% of global oil flows—disrupting shipping and spiking oil prices.
The retaliation reignited fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon, prompting ‘Israeli’ strikes there and spreading the conflict regionally while hitting civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, airports, and heritage sites.
Over the next three weeks, US-‘Israeli’ forces conducted sustained air campaigns that destroyed much of Iran’s air-defense network, missile production sites and navy assets.
Iran appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader, but pragmatic senior official Ali Larijani was assassinated in an ‘Israeli’ strike on March 17.
More than 80,000 civilian sites were hit, including 260 medical facilities and UNESCO-listed buildings, causing widespread blackouts, fuel shortages, toxic pollution, and over 2,000 total deaths across Iran, ‘Israel’, Lebanon, and Gulf states.
The war remained active in its fourth week with ongoing US-‘Israeli’ airstrikes on remaining Iranian targets and Iranian retaliatory barrages, including recent cluster-munition attacks on ‘Israel’ and a failed long-range missile attempt at Diego Garcia.
Trump has threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants unless the Strait of Hormuz reopens fully but has signaled possible winding down or deals, which Tehran denies pursuing.

Iran warns more military tactics yet to be deployed
Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the country has not yet revealed the full scope of its capabilities in the ongoing conflict, warning adversaries that further escalation remains possible.
The spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters addressed what was described as the “American-Zionist enemy,” stating that the tactics used so far represent only a fraction of Iran’s potential military actions.
“Our current operations are merely the minimum,” the spokesperson said, adding that the full range of Iran’s strategies includes measures “that have not even crossed your minds.”
Araghchi vows heavy price after ‘Israel’ strikes key infrastructure
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned the latest wave of strikes by ‘Israel’, stating that two of Iran’s largest steel factories, a major power plant, and other key infrastructure were targeted.
He added that the attacks also hit “civilian nuclear sites,” warning of a dangerous escalation.
Araghchi criticized what he described as coordination with the United States, saying it undermines diplomatic efforts and contradicts the timeframe set by US President Donald Trump.
He stressed that Tehran will not remain idle, vowing a “very heavy price” in response.

IRGC warns US, 'Israeli'-linked industrial sites, orders 1 km evacuation
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a stark warning to American and 'Israeli'-affiliated industrial facilities in the region, following recent strikes on Iranian industrial centers.
The IRGC stated that its fighters are carrying out retaliatory attacks and urged all employees at US-invested or 'Israeli'-linked heavy industries to evacuate immediately to avoid life-threatening risks. Residents within a one-kilometer radius of these facilities were also instructed to leave their homes until the attacks conclude.
The announcement underscores rising regional tensions as Iran signals its willingness to target foreign-linked infrastructure in retaliation for strikes on its own industries.

US & 'Israel' strike Iran’s key uranium facility
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization announced that its yellowcake production facility in Ardekan, Yazd province, was targeted in a joint military strike reportedly carried out by 'Israeli' forces with US support.
The facility, a key center for processing uranium into concentrated powder before enrichment, suffered structural damage, but the agency assured the public that no radioactive leak had been detected. Yellowcake is converted into uranium hexafluoride gas, a critical step toward producing nuclear fuel.
The strike on Ardekan came shortly after reports of attacks on Iran’s Khondab heavy water reactor and industrial sites in Arak. Iranian officials described the wave of assaults as an attempt to disrupt the country’s nuclear infrastructure comprehensively.
Authorities emphasized that while the facility sustained damage, environmental safety remained intact and investigations were ongoing. The attacks mark a serious escalation in regional tensions over Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran says strikes damaged 120 museums & historic buildings across country
- Ahmad Alavi of the Tehran City Council reported that US and ‘Israeli’ airstrikes have damaged at least 120 museums and historical landmarks, including the Saadabad Palace complex and the Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- International monitors have confirmed structural damage to four of Iran’s 29 World Heritage sites, including the Jameh Mosque of Isfahan and Naqsh-e Jahan Square.
Tehran City Council’s head of the Cultural Heritage Committee, Ahmad Alavi, said Friday that US and ‘Israeli’ airstrikes on Iran have damaged at least 120 museums, cultural sites, and historical landmarks across the country since the start of the war.
Alavi said, “At least 120 museums, historic buildings, and cultural sites across various provinces were directly targeted, resulting in severe structural damage.”
He noted, according to state television, that the affected sites include Golestan Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with others such as the Marble Palace, the Teymourtash Museum, also known as the War Museum, and the Saadabad Palace, all located in Tehran.
Saadabad is a vast historical complex in northern Tehran that includes several palaces and heritage buildings set within a large forested area dating back to the early 20th century.
It also houses multiple museums dedicated to Iran’s cultural history, including artifacts from the era of the deposed Shah, such as cars, formal attire, and state gifts from world leaders.
In addition to museums, the complex contains the residences of the Iranian president and the governor of Tehran, while facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the judiciary are located nearby, according to AFP.
The United States and ‘Israel’ launched an attack on Iran on February 28, which on its first day resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and sparked a war whose effects have spread across the entire region.
In mid-March, UNESCO recorded damage to four out of Iran’s 29 World Heritage-listed sites.
These include Golestan Palace, sometimes compared to the Palace of Versailles and one of the oldest sites in the Iranian capital; the Jameh Mosque of Isfahan in central Iran; Chehel Sotoun Palace, also in Isfahan; and the archaeological sites in the Khorramabad Valley in the east.
Several historic houses in the coastal city of Bushehr overlooking the Gulf were also damaged. In Isfahan, Naqsh-e Jahan Square, a 17th-century architectural masterpiece surrounded by mosques, a palace, and a bazaar, also sustained damage.
