  • Iran declares US aircraft carrier Gerald Ford and its support network legitimate targets.
  • Threat extends to logistics hubs and service facilities supporting the carrier.

Iran’s Joint Armed Forces Command has placed the US aircraft carrier Gerald Ford and its Red Sea support network on its military target list, citing a direct threat to the country’s national security.

Brigadier General Ibrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the command, told Fars News Agency that any Iranian response would not be limited to the carrier itself. The planned targeting would also include:

  • Logistics centers: All facilities ensuring the carrier’s operational continuity.
  • Service facilities: Sites supporting the US strike group stationed in the region.

These threats come amid an intensifying confrontation following US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has pursued a strategy of broad retaliation, launching rockets and drones against US and Israeli interests in the region.

Iran’s announcement signals a potential escalation in the Red Sea, as it explicitly warns that both military and critical support infrastructure for US naval forces are now considered legitimate targets under its doctrine of defensive response.
