Jordan’s Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan affirmed that Jordan will not be a battlefield for any party, stressing that the security and safety of the country and its people are above all else, and that nothing takes precedence over national interests and the protection of citizens.

Speaking during a House of Representatives session on Wednesday, the Prime Minister reiterated that Jordan’s sovereignty, the protection of its airspace and borders, and the preservation of its security and stability are firm principles that cannot be compromised, adding that “national interest is the foundation in dealing with all regional developments and all parties.”

He noted that Iranian missile and drone attacks against Jordan and several Arab countries are completely rejected and condemned, describing them as a serious escalation aimed at widening the war and dragging the region into deeper conflict, “at a time when we have exerted and continue to exert maximum efforts to end this war, which we have sought to avoid, to protect all peoples of the region from its consequences, and to reach a lasting solution that prevents its recurrence.”

The Prime Minister said regional crises are not new to Jordan and will not prevent the country from fulfilling its responsibilities toward its people by all means, adding, “We will continue with full determination to implement our programs, projects, and national plans without hesitation or postponement, using all our capabilities, as consistently directed by His Majesty the King.”

On economic security, the Prime Minister confirmed that the Kingdom’s reserves of essential food supplies, basic goods, and raw materials are secure and sufficient for several months, despite a failed Iranian attempt to damage wheat reserves in some silos through a cyberattack targeting the temperature management system.

The incident was handled by authorities without any damage.

He also confirmed that stocks of petroleum derivatives and household gas are available in sufficient and secure quantities for the coming period. Supply chains are operating normally, with appropriate alternatives identified as needed. The local market is being supplied regularly in line with clear plans and ongoing monitoring to ensure market stability and protect citizens’ interests.

He pointed out that the Kingdom’s electricity generation system is based on a well-studied diversification of supply sources and operational options.

Jordan receives liquefied natural gas via the floating LNG terminal in Aqaba, in addition to the readiness of power plants to operate on alternative fuel when needed.

This flexibility has ensured uninterrupted electricity supply across the Kingdom, adding that authorities are fully prepared to carry out urgent repairs to the energy network if any damage occurs.

The Prime Minister acknowledged clear challenges related to rising electricity production costs due to the disruption of a main gas source during the current period, which he hopes will not last long, in addition to rapidly increasing global oil and gas prices following Iranian attacks on Gulf states and the deepening crisis.
