Saudi Arabia threatens military response if Iran targets its facilities

Saudi Arabia has warned it may launch a direct military response if Iran carries out a coordinated attack on the kingdom’s critical infrastructure, according to a source cited by AFP.

The Saudi government clarified that its reaction would depend on the nature of any potential strike. A deliberate assault targeting Aramco would trigger a strong military response. However, if an incident involved a rogue drone or an isolated attack, Riyadh would prioritize monitoring the situation before taking immediate action.

The source also indicated that the kingdom could retaliate against Iranian oil facilities if a coordinated strike impacted Saudi Arabia’s main revenue sources.

This warning comes after the Ras Tanura oil complex, one of the largest refineries in the Middle East, was targeted by two drones. Saudi military forces intercepted the drones, controlling a limited fire caused by falling debris. The Ministry of Energy temporarily halted some operational units at the 550,000 barrels-per-day facility as a precaution, but confirmed that local petroleum supplies remain unaffected.

Ras Tanura is a key pillar of Saudi Arabia’s energy sector and a crucial part of the global oil supply, making any threat to it a potential risk to global economic stability.
