  • 'Israel' launches airstrikes across Lebanon after Hezbollah claims rocket and drone attack on 'Israel'.

'Israel' launched overnight airstrikes on multiple areas in Lebanon late Sunday into Monday, according to Lebanese state media, after Hezbollah announced it had fired rockets and drones at 'Israel' in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Hezbollah claims rocket and drone attack

The 'Israeli' army said it targeted senior Hezbollah officials in Beirut and southern Lebanon. In a statement, it said that “in response to Hezbollah’s projectile fire toward the State of Israel, Israeli forces began striking targets belonging to the Hezbollah organization across Lebanon.”

Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, said in a statement that it launched a salvo of “precision rockets” and a swarm of drones targeting the Mishmar HaCarmel missile defense site south of the city of Haifa. The group described the attack as part of its response to repeated 'Israeli' assaults and “in defense of Lebanon and its people.”

The strike marks Hezbollah’s first attack on 'Israel' since a ceasefire reached in November 2024 ended more than a year of hostilities between the two sides.

Strikes reported across Lebanon

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that 'Israeli' airstrikes hit several areas across the country, beginning with Beirut’s southern suburbs. It also reported significant displacement from the southern suburbs and southern Lebanon following the series of Israeli raids.

Lebanese government condemns rocket launches

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the rocket launches, writing on X that, “whoever stands behind them, launching rockets from southern Lebanon is an irresponsible and suspicious act that endangers Lebanon’s security and safety and gives Israel pretexts to continue its attacks.”

He added that the government would not allow the country to be dragged into new confrontations and would take necessary measures to identify those responsible and protect civilians.

Lebanese authorities have repeatedly said they do not want the country drawn into the broader regional conflict, which escalated after a joint U.S.-'Israeli' attack on Iran prompted a swift response from the Islamic Republic.
