  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle meet with Gaza evacuees and humanitarian partners in Jordan to highlight mental health and emergency care.

Britain's Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, arrived Wednesday at the Specialty Hospital in Amman to meet with recent medical evacuees from Gaza.

The couple accompanied the World Health Organization on a two-day program focused on humanitarian health response, mental health, and support for vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement, according to a press release from their office.

The visit, announced less than 24 hours in advance, included meetings with WHO representatives, United Nations officials, and humanitarian partners to discuss strengthening Jordan’s health system, expanding mental health services, and reinforcing emergency preparedness.

The couple also visited Gaza evacuees receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support in the capital, according to officials familiar with the visit.

In a statement, Prince Harry said: “It is an honor to join the Director-General of the World Health Organization here in Jordan, a country that leads by example in compassion, resilience, and innovation. Through our work with Archewell Philanthropies, my wife and I have witnessed firsthand the impact of the World Health Organization’s efforts in supporting mental health and delivering life-saving care in emergencies.”

He added: “We remain deeply committed to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and expanding access to mental health support for everyone affected by conflict and crisis. Mental health is fundamental to recovery, dignity, and long-term peace, and we are proud to stand with the World Health Organization and its partners around the world to make it a global priority.”

On its official social media account, WHO’s Jordan office said that in Amman, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus “brought together donors, UN partners & the Duke & Duchess of Sussex to strengthen Jordan’s health system, expand mental health services, and reinforce emergency preparedness.”

Jordan has long positioned itself as a regional hub for humanitarian coordination, hosting large refugee populations, including Syrians displaced by more than a decade of war. During their visit, the Duke and Duchess traveled to the sprawling Za'atari Refugee Camp, one of the world’s largest camps for displaced Syrians, where they met families and frontline health workers.
