Tucker Carlson says he and his team were briefly detained and questioned by 'Israeli' airport security after Huckabee interview.
Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson told the Daily Mail that he and members of his team had their passports temporarily taken and were questioned by airport security at Ben Gurion International Airport in 'Israel' following an interview with U.S. Ambassador to 'Israel' Mike Huckabee on Wednesday.
Carlson said men identifying themselves as airport security officials confiscated the passports of his group and brought his executive producer into a side room to question him about the content of the interview. He described the experience as “bizarre” and said his team subsequently left the country.
According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred after Carlson traveled to 'Israel' to meet Huckabee following a public disagreement about the treatment of Christians in the region.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in 'Israel' disputed Carlson’s account to the Daily Mail, saying he had not been detained and was subjected only to standard passport control questions asked of countless visitors, including diplomats.
The embassy also said that Carlson’s only arrangement with 'Israeli' authorities was to coordinate landing his private plane, and that he chose to spend only a few hours in the country before departing.
Prior to the interview, Carlson posted a photo on social media from Ben Gurion Airport with the caption, “Greetings from Israel.”
