  • The US federal court hearing for Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, has been moved from March 17 to March 26, due to logistical challenges cited by the presiding judge.
  • Maduro, who pleaded not guilty to drug-trafficking charges following a January US military operation, currently maintains he is a "prisoner of war" while Delcy Rodríguez serves as Venezuela's interim leader.

The next hearing in the trial of abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro before a US federal court in New York, initially scheduled for March 17, has been postponed to March 26.

Prosecutors, with the consent of Maduro’s defense attorneys, requested the delay. The presiding judge approved the motion, citing challenges in planning and “logistical” issues, without providing further details.

Maduro, 63, made his first appearance before a US court on January 5, two days after being abducted during a US military operation in Venezuela. He pleaded not guilty to drug-trafficking charges, insisting he is a “prisoner of war.”

His wife, Cilia Flores, 69, also appeared in court and entered a not guilty plea.

Flores is set to appear alongside her husband at the March 26 hearing.

Maduro ruled Venezuela with an iron grip from March 2013 until January 2026. The country is currently led on an interim basis by Delcy Rodríguez, who had served as his vice president since 2018.
