Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Saturday that an infant has died due to severe cold, bringing the number of children who have died from exposure since the start of winter to 10.

The ministry said four new fatalities and 12 injuries were received at hospitals across the Gaza Strip over the past 48 hours.

It identified the latest victim as Ali Abu Zour, a three-month-old baby who died from extreme cold at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The ministry said the case highlights the growing risks faced by infants and children amid harsh winter conditions.

Rising casualties

According to the ministry, since the ceasefire took effect, the total number of fatalities has reached 481, with 1,313 injuries recorded. It added that 713 bodies have been recovered during the same period.

Since October 7, the cumulative toll has risen to 71,654 killed and 171,391 wounded, the ministry said.

Health officials continue to warn that cold weather, limited shelter, and shortages of basic necessities are exacerbating humanitarian conditions, particularly for children and other vulnerable groups.
