  • Trump shares private messages from Macron and NATO chief, highlighting Middle East alignment, G7 plans, and confusion over Greenland.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday posted on his Truth Social account the text of a message he received from French President Emmanuel Macron, addressing coordination on several international issues and proposing a Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Paris.

Macron began his message, addressing Trump as “my friend”, by emphasizing that the two leaders were in “total agreement” on Syria, while also noting the potential for achieving “great things” regarding Iran.

Separately, Macron expressed confusion over U.S. moves regarding Greenland. In the published text, he wrote: “I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland.”

The message included a French proposal to hold a G7 meeting in Paris next Thursday afternoon, following the conclusion of the Davos forum, with the suggestion of inviting additional parties on the sidelines of the meeting, including “the Ukrainians, the Danes, the Syrians, and the Russians.”

Macron concluded his message by inviting President Trump to dine together in Paris on Thursday, prior to Trump’s return to the United States.

Macron is scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday before returning to Paris in the evening. Elysee aides stated there are no plans to extend his stay to Wednesday, when Trump is set to arrive in the Swiss resort town.

The dispute between Trump and European allies threatens to unsettle NATO, which has underpinned Western security for decades.

Texts from NATO Secretary General

Later, Trump also shared texts from Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, an alliance whose existence has been called into question by Trump’s threats.

In his message, Rutte wrote: “I am committed to finding a way forward on Greenland,” addressing Trump as “Dear Donald,” praising his actions on Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine, and promising to use his media engagements in Davos to highlight Trump’s work.
