  • Midweek Reprieve: From Tuesday through Thursday, Jordan will experience a gradual rise in temperatures with relatively stable conditions, bringing "pleasant" weather to low-lying areas like the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, while mountainous regions remain cool.
  • Potent Weekend Storm: A cold front from Cyprus is forecast to hit on Friday, bringing heavy rain, hail, and strong winds across the kingdom, with potential flash flood risks in valleys and light snow showers possible on southern mountain peaks by early Saturday.

The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) has issued a weather advisory for the coming week, forecasting a period of relative stability followed by a potent cold front set to arrive by Friday.

While the first half of the week will offer a reprieve from the recent winter chill, meteorologists warn that a low-pressure system centering north of Cyprus will bring a significant shift toward heavy rain and freezing temperatures by the weekend.

Gradual Rise Through Thursday

According to the JMD, Tuesday through Thursday will see a gradual, slight increase in temperatures.

During this period, the weather will remain relatively cold over the mountain highlands but will turn "pleasant" in most other areas.

Low-lying regions, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and the coastal city of Aqaba, are expected to experience relatively warm conditions. Winds will remain moderate, blowing from the east and southeast, while night temperatures across the kingdom will continue to stay cold.

Friday: Arrival of the Cold Front

The stable weather is expected to break on Friday as the kingdom falls under the influence of a cold and moist air mass. The weather will turn cloudy, with rain showers beginning in the northern regions before spreading to central and southern parts of the country.

As the cold front fully crosses the kingdom by Friday evening, rainfall is expected to intensify. Heavy downpours are forecast for the north and center of the kingdom, as well as the southwestern regions and the Jordan Valley. These storms may be accompanied by thunder, lightning, and hail, raising the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

Potential for Snow in the South

Preliminary meteorological analyses suggest that the peak of the cold air mass could trigger light, intermittent snow showers over the high peaks of the Shara Mountains in southern Jordan during late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Accompanying the precipitation, active westerly and northwesterly winds are expected to pick up, with strong gusts that may reduce horizontal visibility. Authorities have urged citizens to stay informed of further updates as the system approaches and to take necessary precautions against the expected heavy rain and sharp drop in temperatures.
